Veezu Offers Sheffield Students a Safe Ride Home - Even if they have no money
15 November 2024
Veezu has committed to supporting student transport in Sheffield throughout the academic year with its Safe Ride initiative.
Working in partnership with the Students' Unions at Sheffield Hallam and University of Sheffield, Veezu aims to help vulnerable students by ensuring safe travel throughout Sheffield. Through the private hire operator's Safe Ride Scheme - now in its 10th successful year in the city - students around Sheffield can get a ride back to their university halls or student accommodation if they are stuck in a compromised situation, even if they don't have any money for the fare on them.
Students from the participating universities can book a journey with Veezu 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which will be covered by handing their student card to the driver.
By phoning 0114 239 39 39 and quoting Safe Rides a vehicle will be sent to stranded students as a matter of priority. Students must hand their student card to the driver. Members of each Students' Union are fully trained to offer support and advice about the service and take payment.
Sacha Boulis, Regional Marketing Manager at Veezu said: "We're here to support students moving to a new city and help them settle into Sheffield student life. This service ensures they can get home safely without the stress of worrying about a fare."
Nadya Ghani, Welfare and Sustainability Officer at Sheffield Students Union said: "The safety of students is a top priority. We're proud to support safe ride schemes with Veezu, making it easier for students to travel safely and confidently, especially at night. This partnership provides an affordable, reliable way home for our community and demonstrates our commitment to ensuring everyone feels secure while navigating our city."
